 > Abstract

Introduction: Malignant-mixed mullerian tumors (MMMT)/carcinosarcomas are rare tumors and pathologically consist of malignant epithelial and malignant mesenchymal components. Of these cases, ovarian carcinosarcomas are very rare and account for only 1%–2% of all malignant ovarian tumors.
Materials and Methods: In our study, we have presented a series of eight cases of carcinosarcoma of ovary with emphasis on their histological features. All patients were postmenopausal; of these, half of the patients presented at Stage Ic.
Results: Tumor size ranged from 6 to 12 cm. On histopathological examination, epithelial predominance was seen in two cases, and sarcomatous predominance was seen in five cases. Equal epithelial and sarcomatous components (SC) were seen in one case. The most common epithelial component was serous carcinoma, and SC was chondrosarcoma. Stage of the disease had no relation with type and differentiation of epithelial or mesenchymal component of the tumor
Conclusion: There is a need for collaborative prospective studies to better understand the MMMTs of ovary.
